I seem to have a semi common problem with the droid. I plug it in via usb, and the notification is not there and windows tells me the usb device is not recognized and that it has malfunctioned.
I’ve tried the same phone and usb cable on three different computers. It works perfectly fine on one and i get errors on the other two.
On one of the computers that my phone wont connect to anymore, the "usb connected" and "usb debugging" icons show up as the computer boots between bios and the windows screen.
The only difference other than hardware on the machines that i know of, is the machine that my phone/cable still works with, I had never connected my phone to prior to upgrading to froyo OTA. All computers are running windows XP service pack 2.
Now some things make me think it isn’t a froyo issue, One of the machines that doesnt recognize the droid now I had connected to with froyo and used for about a day and a half till it all of a sudden quit connecting/notifying me.
I’d take my phone in and complain, but the fact that my phone works fine on one computer makes me believe it isn’t the phone.
I’ve been searching high and low for an answer on the internet. Ive done everything from messing with usb debugging, defragging my hard drive, installing another microsd card, messing with removing devices in the windows device manager and nothing. Anyone with an answer or an educated guess would be greatly appreciated.

My Motorola Droid has a very bad habit. It butt calls — but not to the last person I called!! It randomly picks a number to dial :icon_eek: — could be from either my call log or my address book.
I try to tap the power off before putting it away, but it turns on and dials (this seems like a second "issue") or just lights up the screen — draws the power.
Not only in my purse (lots of magnetic sources there) but this morning when I had it in my sweatshirt pocket — no other electronic devices near it!
Any suggestions??
oh, btw, the magnetic sources randomly fool droid into believing it’s been docked. Connected to a media station is what it says. I don’t even have a dock. that one had me stumped for a while! can I block the "dock" mode?

I searched the forums to make sure this question wasn’t posted, so if it is please forgive me, I somehow missed it;
I’ve been plugging my Droid into my laptop’s USB port for some time now with no issues. Up until now I always got the "USB Connected" notification in the upper left hand corner of my home screen on the droid, but now I don’t see it. I re-started both the computer and the phone and used all the different USB ports with the same result. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and if so how did you resolve it?
P.S. I am still working with 2.1(update1), the 2.2 push hasn’t come my way yet.

So Friday I received my "like new" replacement from my droid I had since released date that all of a sudden deceiced to start acting weird (battery showed ? And wouldn’t charge and kept rebooting). So with the new droid I have 2 different snap on cases where both of front cases doest not fit! Also noticed that screen brightness outside is dimmer that original droid (set on either auto or full). Also noticed a plus, gps finds itself a lot quicker and more accurate. Although google cloud had all my contacts, paid apps, I still had to go through and redownload all free ones I had again (time consuming). Other than that seems like phone is working just like org one!

hey Ive recently started using an android phone and am very interested in rooting my phone. I have in the past hacked my psp and i like to modify my personal electronic devices.. According to the model number in my droid settings it says the phone is a "Droid". However, after looking at several screenshots online of both the motorola droid and motorola droid milestone, i cannot seem to tell which phone i have. From what i hear the milestone is not rootable. i have several questions i hope someone would please help me with.
1. How can i tell the difference between a droid milestone and motorola droid? Physical differences? firmware differences? etc.
2. If my phone is a milestone can it be rooted? if so, would someone please link me a guide to root it. I have been searching for a while now and have found various rooting guides but all of them have somewhat varying steps and i dont want to brick my phone so i rather do it the correct safe way.
3. I also heard a rumor that the motorola droid is almost unbrickable. is this true or what is the story behind this?
4. what are the significant downsides to rooting if any? as it pertains to service and contracts as well as warranty?
5. once rooted, which rom is the best to use for froyo?
thanks in advanced. Sorry if this was posted in the wrong place.

i am getting a replacement phone in a few days. I was wondering if using the backup i made right before i rooted would make it be back to stock, so i could return it?
if not that, will doing a factory reset through the settings on the phone work?
idk if there’s more to it or not, but my "about phone" says
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: C_01.3E.03P
Kernel version: 2.6.29-omap1-g7fa8788
android-build@apa26 #1
Build number: ESE81

Hi all
Increasingly, my Motorola Droid turns itself off and back on again. It generally happens when I’m NOT using the phone. It’s just sitting there – on a table, in my bag, in my pocket – and I hear the "Droid turning itself on" sound out of nowhere.
Sometimes it turns itself off and NOT back on, which I obviously don’t realize until I try to use the phone again, which can be incredibly annoying if I’m expecting a call.
I’ve searched around here and elsewhere and can’t find a lot of information on this problem, other than that it might mean I need to replace the whole phone.
My phone is kept pretty lean – I have about 60 apps installed (this number includes all the stock ones), all fairly rudimentary and popular ones. I haven’t rooted the thing or really done ANYTHING else unusual to the phone. I’m kind of at a loss – anyone know what to do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Ok, day one on my Moto Droid, so if this is common or easily fixed, sorry, but could not find it in the forum.
My hardware keyboard appears to be haunted, it works fine at times, but most of the time, there are multiple keys that do not work properly. The "E" key for example, when I press it, it types a series of capital letters, instead of the "E" it is supposed to.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Russ

Right after I upgraded to Froyo, my wife and I got into an argument and she smashed my phone.
Went to two VZW stores, plea bargaining, to no avail. Didnt expect much, and didnt get much. Dude told me some crazy stuff like "we can add a second line on your phone and get you a $200-some-odd price."
I’m looking online and Bestbuy has Droid for $99 with "new 2 year contract." I don’t plan on going anywhere but verizon anytime soon…so that really does bother me. My question is…is this a true price? Or is new 2 year contract only for new verizon wireless customers?
Is it is truly $99 for me, an existing verizon customer, how the heck are Best buy able to charge so much less?!?!
Thanks!

Hey, I’m new here and I’ve tried to find a thread with what I’m looking for and I’ve found close but not exactly what I want.
So I got my Droid wet and broke it and got sent a new one. I put in my original mini SD card and it seemed to load all my contacts up and sync with my gmail account and everything seemed to be working fine. The only exception is that now when I load a contact by clicking the add new contact in the contact app it puts it in my "all contacts" folder in my gmail account instead of the "my contacts" folder which makes it not appear on my contacts list on my Droid. Now the only solution I have really heard people try and come up with is that I need to check the "all other contacts" under the display options which is not the solution I am looking for since I only want to list what is in the "my contacts" folder and I don’t want to have to go into my gmail account and transfer contacts from "all contacts" to "my contacts" every time I want to add someone new into my phone. My old Droid had no problem with this and I could just add new contacts with no problem.
The only other weird thing about my new Droid’s contact app is under display options it lists everything as a system group which it also did not do before I’m pretty sure and also lists "system group: my contacts" twice which makes me think this might have something to do with my issue. I hope this describes what I am talking about and any help would be appreciated as this is very frustrating when I am trying to add a new contact.
Thanks in advance.
