So Friday I received my "like new" replacement from my droid I had since released date that all of a sudden deceiced to start acting weird (battery showed ? And wouldn’t charge and kept rebooting). So with the new droid I have 2 different snap on cases where both of front cases doest not fit! Also noticed that screen brightness outside is dimmer that original droid (set on either auto or full). Also noticed a plus, gps finds itself a lot quicker and more accurate. Although google cloud had all my contacts, paid apps, I still had to go through and redownload all free ones I had again (time consuming). Other than that seems like phone is working just like org one!

GPS not working

Posted on 12th July 2010 by garret in Droid Updates | Tags: , , , , , ,
All,

Recently, my GPS on the motorola droid stopped working. I have taken my phone over to Verizon wireless and they couldn’t figure out why it isn’t working either. They suggested resetting the phone but I’d like to see if anyone here has any GPS issues before doing so and if you were able to resolve it.

Navigation

Posted on 7th July 2010 by garret in Droid Updates | Tags: , , , , ,
Is there a way to just turn on navigation without a location? So it just shows you driving along without recalculating or showing the arrows to turn? Sort of like a normal GPS that will show direction and speed and just follow you.

I did a search but did not see this anywhere.

Thanks.

What happens if I drop Verizon’s service on my Droid?

I’ve become unemployed since getting my Droid, so I thought I would switch back to my Chocolate2 and save the $29.99/month data plan. Verizon said I could switch phones without a penalty, because I will still be on the contract.

Anyway, I am wondering if my Droid will become a brick without being tied to Verizon or if some of its capabilities will still work.

Will I be able to access email and the Market via WIFI? What about GPS, does the Droid actually talk to the satellites? I’m sure there are other things I am not thinking about right now, but this is a good starting point.

If I can’t use the Droid at all without Verizon, will rooting change things?

Battery Life in Navigation

Hi, I have a Droid that I love. The only problem I have is that when I am using the GPS even when I have it plugged into a car charger, the battery drains faster that is can be charged. I am using an old Moto charger that I had with my Razor. Verizon says I need a new (stronger) charger. My question is 1) is there such a think as needing a stronger charger and 2)has this happened to anyone? I wonder if I am the only person with this problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

GPS and 3G questions

Posted on 9th May 2010 by garret in Droid Updates | Tags: , , , , , , ,
Hello,

This may of been asked before but.

Where I live I have 100% 3G service. I plan on traveling about 6 hours away and I can almost guarantee I will NOT have 3G service the whole way.

Can I still use Navigator and the GPS, WITHOUT 3G coverage (Just the 1x coverage)

can someone clarify?

Thanks

When hold ‘Camera,’ opens Text Message…among other issues

I hold the camera button the side until I heard that ‘camera-focus noise.’

Then, my Moto Droid loads a text message (using the default ‘Messaging’ app) where I had previously shared a picture via text….wtf.

Another time I pressed browser and it opened ‘Messaging.’

Does anyone else have issues like this? REALLY annoying.

While I am at it…
-If I want to add something to the home screen, I hold down and select ‘Shortcut.’ This takes about 3 seconds, which is too long but oh well. Then, I press ‘Applications,’ and it takes >30 seconds, finally displaying. I am using a ‘live wallpaper,’ but I seem to remember this issue even before 2.1’s release. This SUCKS.

After reading all around, I have begun to think that maybe my phone is defective. I use ATK, so there isn’t really anything running that shouldn’t be. I would not consider my phone ‘fast.’ I would say the iPhone is faster (after a quick comparison with a friend’s); that is, I click things on the iPhone, and they work immediately. I really want to love my Droid, but I find myself screaming at it more than I am happy with it. (Like just now, I went to unlock it, and the ‘Unlock bar’ stuck for about 3 seconds…before Unlocking….Other times, I unlock my phone and there are no icons on the home page for about 15 to 30 seconds).

Also, with Pandora, if I have Pandora running and then try to use Google Maps, it says ‘Searching for GPS.’ If I open Google Maps and then Pandora, the GPS works fine. In the former instance, right when I close Pandora, the GPS is found…BS.

In summary,
-Camera to Messaging Issue
-Time it takes to add a Shortcut (>30 seconds waiting for screen)
-Is my phone defective?
-Unlocking bar freezes for a period
-Home page sometimes displays nothing for 10 to 30 seconds after unlock
-Pandora and Google Map ‘Searching for GPS’ issue.

Thanks and sorry for the rant. Don’t know where else to turn.

Google Navigation works fine without internet connection

I meant to post this a while ago, but about 2 weeks ago my friend and I went camping in the woods and mountains of northern Georgia. Well I was a little apprehensive about relying on google maps navigation with so many mountains, yes I know they are not huge but they are still mountains, and being out in the boonies. But there were many times we lost the internet signal going through valleys and such and the gps still maintained the position and the navigation continued without a hitch. There were times when it was about 2-4 minutes before we got an internet signal back. I just wanted to post this for people who may think google maps would be unreliable with no internet signal. I know this was a limited test, but I was up there all week and never had a single problem going to various different places we had never been before. Also I was amazed at how many times I could get and keep two bars or higher of 3G. In my mind, I kept saying "Yeah try that on AT&T’s network." :)
