the box is completely different than mine which was a long skinny one. i bought mine back in early december. hers was boxed in a short, wider box. first off her keyboard is now completely flat and mines bubbled. also her screen is a lot brighter than mine is and i had them both set to auto brightness. was holding hers right next to mine and mine looks washed out and dull while hers is really nice and bright.
kinda pissed, i like the more vibrant screen
oh and my search key on bottom row is white, the others are an off white..
anyone notice slight differences in droids as the build dates increase? 2 of my friends just got droids at work and im going to compare them to mine as well. also i would have never noticed these differences unless i hold them side by side

1. I Have now had two different moto droids and a third is on it’s wa because the lock button stops working. I press and hold it and can power down the phone but a simple tap to lock the screen doesn’t work. it acts as if it doesn’t recognize it. Has anyone else heard of this? When I has a problem with the first one VZW hadn’t heard of it but when I went to talk to them about the second one having the same issue they said a fix is on the way, it won’t be in the 2.1 update but will be very shortly after. This drives me nuts because I use BT and when ever I put the phone in its holster or my pocket I hang up on people or transfer from BT to the handset….
2. I absolutely HATE that when I end a call it takes me to the darn call log screen or the contacts screen. I used to have an app that took me to the home screen upon pressing end, but had to do a factory reset which wiped out all my apps (for the lock issue) and cannot remember the name of it… can anyone help me out with this?
Thank you in advance!
Had it not been for the forum I would have likely tossed the droid and stuck with my "dumb" phone, I’m hoping I can again be bailed out by you guys!

Considering that 100,000 Droids were sold the first weekend that it was released, it is clear that there is demand in the market for the phone, which is Motorola`s answer to the iPhone. Ever since the popular RAZR phone, Motorola has seemed to be somewhat quiet on the cell phone front, getting left behind in by the popularity gained by Nokia and others. Their introduction of the Droid may be what puts the company back on the map.
The Droid runs Google`s AnDroid platform which allows for many of the same features of the iPhone, some which run as well or better than Apple`s and some which do not. Ultimately, it is up to the consumer to decide which they prefer.
As far as aesthetics go, the Droid is quite pleasing to look at. Slim and narrow with a large touch screen, the phone also can be pushed upwards to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. This is obviously a plus for those who are not comfortable typing on a touch screen. There are those with strong opinions on the matter and it seem that touchscreen typing versus keyboard typing is quite the hot topic. It may feel more natural to type on a keyboard and you can send texts with fewer typos.
Obviously, no one uses a Smartphone just for making phone calls and texting. If that is your sole reason for having a phone, you might as well just use the free one that you can get when you sign up for a plan with any provider. Smartphone users want to be able to check email and surf the web while they are on the go. The Droid seeks to provide a good experience for doing so.
Droid users are able to maintain multiple email accounts on the unit and can see the emails from each account consolidated in one place, a convenience that should not be overlooked if you happen to use multiple email addresses on a regular basis. The large screen and crystal clear display make viewing webpages a pleasure on the Droid.
Any busy Smartphone user also realizes the importance of having a camera on the phone. You just never know when you will need to snap a photo to forever memorialize something that is happening in front of you. Whether it is your child`s first steps or your friend`s bad hair day, it can come in handy to have a camera always at your fingertips. Unfortunately, the camera seems to be an area in which the Droid is slightly lacking. While it is possible to take decent pictures, the usability is not quite so easy.
If the phone is not being used as your primary picture-taking device then it is probably sufficient. To make up for the deficiency in terms of taking still pictures, the Droid is very adept in the video department. So if you forget your video camera at your child`s school play, the Droid could serve as a viable replacement!
Ultimately, it is not likely that the Droid will take many consumers away from the iPhone. Apple is likely to maintain its brand recognition and loyal consumers. But for those who are willing to try something new, the Droid may be the best option.

1) Keyboard – It sucks badly, mind numbing design (except for gamers). We knew what it was coming in but I found out that using a case (especially Verizon’s stock) makes typing impossible. This is because the small amount of space on the top between the screen and top rows of the keyboard are totally necessary to reach those keys. Is there any case that is thinner and more forgiving in that area?
2) Pop mail does not work reliably to pull based upon time. I set it to pull from my server and it did a few times. Now I get tons of yellow "error" messages that are unexplained. When I go into the email account and it checks email, more often than not it will then pull the email without an error.
3) Email is poorly done. Is there a replacement email application? My problems are as follows: (a) Like the iPhone, every time you just go into a mailbox to review mail the damn phone checks for new mail. This will kill your battery and, at least on an iphone, there is no manual way to turn this off or set it. Is there one on the Droid? (b) Using the keyboard means losing the back and forth arrows in email – what the…? (c) I can’t seem to put in signatures for POP email but, worse, there is no bcc to myself if I send email from these accounts. (d) How do you get it to download full emails and pics? I travel out of range a lot and just want the phone to download all email from all accounts and get the contents of the email for offline viewing.
4) How do you auto quit applications or switch between them? It’s maddening that apps will stay open forever or even run multiple copies. How can you see what apps are running and easily switch, e.g. on the blackberry you hit a key and can cycle through all the apps. More importantly, how can you quit an app? There is no exit/quit on most of the apps I had.
5) How can you backup the phone? I have not found any way to backup my apps and the data. I looked at the Palm Pre and I wonder if this is the same maniacal obsession with "the cloud" that is there. If you have a to do application that doesn’t sync to a wireless or web based app, I can’t find a way to backup your applications you downloaded and the data that was in that application. Am I missing something? On the Palm this is a HUGE hole.
6) How do you set the LED light to do alerts? Isn’t that what it is there for, e.g. blink when you have new voice mail messages, etc.
7) Is there an app to condense space between icons? It’s almost as bad as working on a blackberry. You have 12 icons on the front screen. If you reduced the vertical space you could easily fit another row. How about the left right screens? There seems no way to nicely organize all your apps other than these ‘favorite’ areas as in the big repository it’s all the apps thrown in – and you can’t even make stuff invisible that you won’t use like "corporate email" or the like.
We have outlook on our PCs, not exchange. We have a LOT of offline emailing where we travel with netbooks and Outlook is great to read and reply to email, sent when you have a connection. I can’t find any easy way to sync Outlook contacts and calendar information, including notes and to dos. I downloaded Companionlink and it’s a mess, IMHO. It doesn’t sync the calendar, only the contacts. Maybe I did something wrong but the only way I can see to even "sync" is to sync Outlook calendar to google and google to the phone. Contacts requires companionlink which is "ok" at best and then they have their own notes and memo app. VERY VERY lame.
9) I get too many errors com.google.android.phone
10) I’m worried about the slider mechanism wearing out – how are yours faring?
That’s a lot of text and hopefully some of you can take parts to help me through it. I want to like the Moto Droid but it has a lot of failings for such an expensive phone. The workings are clunky. As much as I dislike Apple and think the Palm will be gone soon, I think Android 2 and the Droid are a somewhat clunky embarrassment. Much of this feels awkward like old Windows Mobile but even less reliable. I hope I’m wrong and that you guys can help me remedy some of the challenges I’m having.
